The Engineering For Kids concept came from the mind of Dori Roberts Stewart, an educator with an extensive background in technology and math education. After teaching high school students engineering for 11 years, she realized there was a big need for science, math, and engineering programs. She took it upon herself to start an afterschool program that involved these subjects and held various science and engineering-based competitions.
The after school program grew rapidly and her group won several state championships, which led her to modify the program to apply to a wider demographic. The overwhelmingly positive response to what she had created made her realize that there was a business opportunity with these programs. She decided to leave teaching and dedicate 100% of her time to developing what became Engineering For Kids.
